liveblog: Silksong bosses, Act 2
Jan. 4th, 2026 05:44 amThis includes all optional bosses that are accessible on the map during Act 2, except for Voltnest (which is technically accessible with some funky jumping but it's inconsistent getting up to it without Silk Soar, so no, I'll do that in 3) and defeating the final boss of Act 2 whilst cursed.
Cogwork Dancers
• this fight is special because it's the first time I started having pattern recognition and realising the boss teaches you its moveset for the first minute or so, and as I was learning realtime, maybe I could play Hollow Knight and Silksong myself
• It's a very simple fight all told, it's two things showing you a telegraph of where they'll be going next on screen in time to the music, then faster, then they're out of time, then there's only one and no music. But I do still like it, not everything has to be overly complex to be enjoyable
Savage Beastfly (round 2)
• THE FUCKING ADS
• I had so much trouble on the first Savage Beastfly I was an expert at the rules of its mechanics. However this arena has no walls and periodically the floor disappears and is literally lava, so you have to lead it, or hope it doesn't do two sets of ground pounds or else you have to line yourself up and leap of faith to where ground will soon be returning to
• Because there's no ceiling you can also pogo on the boss for a bit?? Which isn't advisable but it is kind of funny
• But truly, the ads. These guys spit lava balls at you and once again take wayyy too many hits to take down, and if they spawn on the side of the screen where the boss is or not where you are your run is basically over. They also fly significantly higher and getting to them is a pain
The Forum gauntlet (High Halls)
• This is an eleven wave fight, which apparently you can get help from NPCs with. I did this really early considering, I had all my abilities but not all my masks/spools and got to the last wave on my first try, and beat it on my second
• There's one point half way through it summons a heavily armoured bug with a staff that does boss like mechanics at you and I handled it decently and thought that was it (it wasn't). My face when two popped in for the final phase
• The best way to deal with them is to be a spider and wall cling at the edge of the arena, wait for them to do an attack, pogo off one of their heads and sprint to the other side of the arena and repeat. Slow and steady wins the race
Chef Lugoli
• I had to cheese this one
• Lugoli has a whole trifecta of awful mechanics, including projectiles that arc and bounce off walls oddly and the boss' hitbox is significantly larger than their actual model - the circular shape is extended to include the wings (they are a fly). I couldn't pogo them safely as the ceiling is too low and I couldn't run under them consistently bc of the hitbox thing
• As for the projectiles. They stop you from healing. You have to burn a heal to get rid of the maggots. And if I got hit by one (which I would eventually) the fight was basically over. There is an item you can get to stop yourself being maggoted, but even that's 4-5 chances and is moreso designed for falling in maggot water rather than projectile spew. I saw phase two once naturally. I then tried cheese strat several times - which is to throw two sets of poison tools down and watch the boss melt themselves in the small enclosed space - and on phase 3 it was like, yeah I absolutely could not do this one 🥲🥲
Broodmoother
• As of this fight i have 3/4 nail upgrades so this helps exponentially with duration
• Much like Lugoli, really small arena with a low ceiling, hitbox extends when they dive. Unlike Lugoli, commits to doing a dive and hits the floor so you can always fully jump over and pogo them
• Unremarkable, three attempts, done
Phantom
• FUN. This is like Hornet's fights in Hollow Knight, same diagonal pogo and everything, the same weapon throw, same vulnerability of being able to pogo on them whilst they're doing the second thing
• Much like Lace, if they successfully parry, RUN THE FUCK AWAY
• Their half arena light attack threw me at first because the telegraph is very brief and you have a split second to get out based on the direction you're already going. Ideally, don't get stuck in a corner when it goes off. Unfortunately, this is inevitably going to happen a couple of times. I had to cheat sheet of unfocusing my vision if Phantom moved and I couldn't immediately see a black blob on screen, they're doing this move
• Phantom parry death is really cool but their death scream breaks my heart :( Phantom is nb, and has a female VA who is doing a much deeper voice, but when they death scream their voice cracks and it's just the abandoned girl that they once were... I feel bad about it. They deserved better :(
The Unraveller
• Hitbox deceptively sized my beloathed
• Ended up using Druid's Eyes which forms bonus silk based on the damage i take for faster silk regeneration for healing, and lucky dice, which saved me a couple of hits. I started using lucky dice for most bosses after this tbh
• The spears sucked until I understood the best thing to do was simply walk from one side of the arena to the other if they were the "lots of them" variant, easiest way to dodge them
Signis and Grom
• This went about as I expected: first time you die learning what he does and when is safe to attack/jump and what moves are aoe's and so on, second time you die at phase two, only the second phase is he summons a second boss and i proceeded to immediately be skewered to death
• The third time was funny because i was too efficient and ended up having the second boss show up when the two ads were still on the screen. This is TERRIBLE because you WILL die you cannot stand ANYWHERE
• Fourth time i did it, didn't even need to learn grom's moves/i did brute force it a little with Druid's eyes :')
Father of the Flame
• Puzzle boss
• The puzzle is to pogo around all four destructible lights on its limbs and then pogo on its body until it does a brief bullet hell and rinse and repeat until it's dead
• For the point in the game you'll be accessing this (it requires double jump) its way too easy LMAO
Raging Conchfly
• Oh so this one does the ricochet bounce projectile I thought the first one would do. Okay
• I had the most difficulty with the ricochet and trying to hit them back and it being unable to, so just had to do my best to dodge and got lucky in that I got to phase 3 before being hit...
• He summons ads but they don't do anything special, at one point they line up and fly at you one at a time and every time the boss initiated this instead of the ricochet was a thank goodness for that
Trobbio
• Fun fight and I love a dramatic moth glamour boy but very glad I only had to do this fight three times (learn moves, get caught out by phase 2, succeed) because phase 3 is too fast and too many flashy vfx crossing over with each other. I was already having to look away for the fireworks/rockets/exploding projectiles once establishing safe zones, this is difficult to do when I have to look during the mechanic to establish the next safe zone
• Also tip: turn off screen shake for this fight. I have mine on reduced anyway but this one gets REAL BAD
Groal The Great
• The saddest thing is I almost did this first try but then the boss scared me and stopped me from being too aggressive, LMAO
• The run back does suck but it's not the platforming it's the rng of enemy placement. Sometimes four enemies will pop out the swamp and throw darts the way you're going! Sometimes one. Sometimes there are four poison birds! Sometimes one. Sometimes they are in the pathway! Sometimes they are not. It's just inconsistent
• He is not very complex. His attacks are he spits things at you in an arc, he spits three white beams at you that follow Savage Beastfly rules, and also does a big inhale where he eats you and you have to button mash to get out. I kept being mid on my way to pogo and he would start the inhale, I would die, or he would move slightly and disrupt me from bouncing on his head (big hitbox), I would get too scared to go pogo him, but this is the way you beat him... because he's above a poison swamp arena...
• Anyway I tried a few things and ended up back on my default crest build and just resolved to button mash the pogo on his head to make sure I'd stay over his head
• He inhaled and got me
• I then got the most metal fucking ending of defeating the boss by one of my struggle hits being the thing that killed him. Hornet killed Groal from inside his fucking body. Holy ShitTM.
First Sinner
• Remember how you loved the Widow fight. What if we did it again but without Widow's limitations of not being able to use silk herself. Me, vibrating intensely
• Honestly cool as hell fun as heck favourite fight hands down
• Unexpected phase 2 (should have seen that coming) and I instantly die to the new mechanic, because of course
• I actually dropped my safety fractured mask for an extra point of health because of having to run back to the bench to fix it and just tried faster healing and won off that
• And also I did some really good dodging honestly, I was one with the Hornet during this fight
Second Sentinel
• This is a pseudo boss fight duel and honestly I just kind of face tanked it and healed up in the spot they could not get to 😭😭 second sentinel I am sorry.
Lace 2
• I am going to be honest. I also kind of facetanked her. LMAO
• No I did dodge her mechanics and knew when to backstep and run away because the game has spend the last sixty hours teaching me this but I also did sometimes just stand there and take the hit so I could hit her back for more damage and then jump where she can't get to and heal (op strategy) because I have all the masks and spool available to me
• Also if you mash fast enough and run with the enemy movement you just continually parry, I was doing this with First Sinner and Lace is even easier
• First try :)
Grand Mother Silk
• Hello boss whose hitbox I can stand in for the final boss
• No face tanking this time it's serious business
• She really is just a more visible Radiance fight but also incredibly... simplified? She was not difficult in the slightest: my biggest issue was sideways swords because they tend to show their starting point off screen and just suddenly lunge at you, but I feel like with more practice I could have got it
• Not that I needed it I did it first try also. Goodness she is not difficult at all. However I have to do this whilst Cursed next, so we'll see how many times I fail at that, lol
