requiems: (prih ☙ hand to heart)
[personal profile] requiems
I haven't written anything longform resembling a fic for this (much like I did not for wolfilia week or wolzero week...) but I did collect some of my wolgraha thoughts together that I haven't touched on in fic before in sort-of prose to solidify it for myself more than anything. Mostly codependent cats. All varying levels of angst? Pretend to be surprised.

First Meetings

Prih really does not think much of G'raha Tia at all when they first meet in the woods because he is putting on an act.

He is not being true to himself. She has a job to do and she does it grandly and without complaint. And along the way G'raha Tia learns that she is the embodiment of all those stories to the letter. She really is just like that: this is a woman that helps everyone, whose bough will weather any storm, who does it because it is right. She is the definition of a hero.

And he starts to fall in love with her. Or the ideal. He will lock himself away and strangers as they yet are his departure will not trouble her. He does not know her either. He never saw what lies beneath, but he keeps the memories of what he wishes he could be close when he wakes in a broken future, when he arrives in a blighted past, when he has to wait a hundred years until he can call her to fix this and he knows in his heart that she will. Without question. 'Tis the duty she had given herself. She will take all that light into herself, although it will kill her. And he can't let her do it.

But they really meet each other half way. He's keeping so many secrets, but in what should be his final farewells before a long awaited end he is for the first time honest. Prihsciya Lockati meets G'raha Tia, someone he thought long discarded, for the first time.

And he knows he has done the worst thing he could possibly do.

Introductions

Prih's family arrives en masse at the Rising Stones before she journeys unto the First, to watch over the scions' lifeless bodies. They are still there when she returns triumphant and her cohort wake.

She hides the scars on her hands and she is as ever fine but Rehn takes one look at his sister and he knows she came dangerously close to another brink and he could not be there to help this time. The Scions came together as a family, to save her, and she in turn saved them, but there is someone new she runs to wake from a dreamless sleep that he does not know.

When he meets Graha Tia he doesn't like him - he likes everyone. She says to him as such. Well, he didn't leave that great of an impression on me at first either, but he's of a wonderful mind. Warm and insightful and he is my friend.

But Rehn can't like him. He is going to make his little sister cry. Her heart will be shorn again, after so long spent carefully repiecing it.

She doesn't know yet. She can't tell she's in love, that Graha Tia is in love with her. So he pats her on the head and says he will let his misgivings, whatever they are, lie.

And he will be at her side in a moment if she asks.

(He's right, though. G'raha Tia does make her cry, at the edge of the universe.)

Moms and dad are slightly different. He meets Aureahya and Rehnarta at the Rising Stones in passing, but it's officially after Endwalker when Prih goes home to rest and asks him to come along with her that they're introduced. They get very much in his business (as do the rest of her sisters, she's never brought someone home before) and Prih gets somewhat overwhelmed by it. Ehris, G'raha already knows, and has an established rapport with him. Truly he had no idea he was the father to his favourite person in the world.

Hurt/Comfort

Both of them are inherently private people used to carrying their burdens and hurts alone (Fray screaming in the distance) but because they do this they understand the other is doing it too, and that conversation where Graha offers to carry it with her sticks. It takes time to be in a position of seeing that vulnerability with the other when it's not a world ending situation, and often it's just out of sleep when the mind is at rest and they let down that guard, thinking themselves as safe...

She wakes feeling small and insecure, seeing the faces of those she failed to save. Sometimes it is him. Him in the First and him still sleeping at the tower and him at the end of the universe. In future days that have not happened yet. She wakes missing Minfilia and holding herself together, hands wrapped around her own ribs with the ache, the despair of how she never got an ending, and all he can is hold her.

He wakes and his hands are crystal. She is bleeding light. She is dead in the future and the past and he did it. He wakes and he is but the exarch, alone. He has failed. He has succeeded. He has left her in tears. All she can do is hold him and assure that, he is here and he is alive.

In Ultima Thule there are no words of comfort. He slips away from the Ea and she is sent to fetch him. Thancred is gone. Estinien too. One by one Meteion will take them, and it is she that must walk every step of the way.

Please. Please don't leave me.

In the First she was falling... but now she relies. She would have been sad to lose him. She called him by his name and it hurt, it hurt her. But now she begs. She needs him. You are worth as much as me G'raha please.

She is wrong, about that.

When she returns battered, and bruised, and barely alive, he thinks the same.

Please. Please don't leave me.

If you can find it in your heart to bare it to another again--

I'm here.

I'm waiting.

AU: the one where she goes to Sharlayan with her father as a child and meets an unlikely hero

When Rhen leaves with Ehris to Sharlayan on his fifteen nameday, Prihsciya, who has always dreamed of learning, goes with them.

She is too little for adventures, yet. But smaller ones she may have. The annex, then: there are children close to her age, and Galuf may not mind them the company.

She feels lonely. She has so many mothers and sisters and here there are none and Rehn has gone to Labyrinthos, wherever that is. But there are books! There is so much to learn about this world she will one day get to further explore. She reaches out for the next tome, but someone else is already holding it.

He says his name is G'raha. It's his book. He is a seeker and his eyes are different colours. She wants to read it, and he proposes a game.

This way neither of them shall read it, but she wins, anyway.

AU: the one where she takes the blow for Haurchefant and Rehn becomes the wol

In his tower G'raha Tia is awoken to save the Warrior of Light. He remembers her: how steadfast she was, how resolute.

It is not her of which they speak.

He feels at a loss. But no one remembers the Warrior of Light as he does. In the tales and the songs and the stories, they describe someone else. It is only tucked away in the memoirs of Count Edmont de Foretemps that he discovers what became of her.

She is not in their scope to save. Her brother, the Scions, cannot be lost. But she will forever be beyond his reach. Rehn is the one they keep close to their hearts... but he will never be the Warrior of Light he knew.

There are so many that shall never be saved. So many that he will lose. He grapples with that, every day on the First. They speak of heroes that saved them from the warriors of light's contempt. Not one but two. In Eulmore a girl is discovered. She is the bearer of her will, and awakens to it when she calls.

He asks for a description. He already knows what to expect. But he is wrong.

In every way she is alike to the former antecedent of the Scions-- in all but one.

She is mystel.

Many years later, he meets a child of Minfilia for himself, that Thancred liberated.

She has Prihsciya's eyes.

The second hero, he learns, was the Warrior of Light as he remembered her to be. And he wonders, briefly, if what remains of her cannot be yet saved--

But if she is with Minfilia, as she wished to be, together, they would be happy, achieving this. Saving the world, in this small way that they can.

A smile better suits a hero.

cats cats cats cats cats cats cats!!!

It's so funny to me to read about G'raha meeting Prih's family, as someone with a WoL who doesn't have family. G'raha deserves to be pestered by every last one of Prih's siblings. And then some.
