requiems: (serah ☙ promises)
[personal profile] requiems
It's been really humid at night so I've been struggling to sleep, and am thus not really trying for another hour or so (past dawn)... this bodes ill when it's going to be 30c until Sunday.

Drives week in Overwatch begins tomorrow, so here's hoping the games are clean so I don't have to fight my own teammates in a heatwave. My duo and I did our open placements earlier in the season so we are READY with OPTIONS. We've been doing a stadium game a night, mostly; we've gotten really good at one tricking our chosen picks and can turn games around using them and our inane survivability on stalling points. Tonight I got to elite (yay)!! ...honestly stadium is fun despite my earlier misgivings for it, although they still apply; it's heavily dependant on having a game plan and playing with somebody else. And at times, dragging your underperforming Cassidy kicking and screaming toward the finish line whilst you have double his cash. Lol.

Because we've been doing a lot of stadium we've been making a decent chunk of comp points naturally. Galactic weapons as a substitution for next season's BP and shop being full of stuff for heroes I don't play? Yeah. The sakura themed skins may put me in mega danger, though.

I'm still thinking about furniture. I have ideas. Replacing my desk is still on the (ha) table, but I also want to replace, adjust, or add a few other things here and there in my living space. Having thought about it, a great option for helping me clean is to get furniture with doors or inserts, or drawers, so things can go away where they will not be dusty. With glass door inserts, I can see figures or plushies, but they will get significantly less dusty. Not foolproof or dust free, but nearly. It will be much, much easier for me to run a wipe over a (mostly) empty sideboard every now and then, or even dust a handful of things on top of a kallax, rather than looking at the entirety of it and despairing. Or, asking my dad to do it, as there's nothing fragile or bulky in the way. The logic is, I will have to dust and clean again... but once I do it one more time, probably not again after that.

And I can do it in stages. I would not buy everything all at once, and objects from the next place can be stashed away temporarily after being cleaned so they stay clean.

In considering furniture types and what I would want, it also struck me that a lot of things I put on tables and leave indefinitely on tables - or, if on a kallax, one cube higher than that - is because they are within easy reach. I don't have to bend down. No bending down equals no vertigo attacks. So if I had drawers or cupboards at table height or one higher... you see where I'm going with this. It is foolproofing and longterm adapting for my disability and that's worth every penny. Because again: I can make things less messy and tidier! I can put all my meds in a drawer at my height instead of scattered everywhere on open surfaces! Which in turn makes the prospect of cleaning easier! But they are still in easy reach for me to get! My flat has basically zilch built in storage as is so this can only be helpful.

So in my living space at the moment, I'm considering:

- a 3x3 closed kallax to replace the open stair one that takes up the same amount of space. This was inherited furniture from when the flat was bought. It's fine. It's good. But if I replaced it for three cupboards, three drawers, and three glass door inserts, not only can I get more storage from it, one less thing to dust. I have a plushie display on it so that would take up one glass door cube: the others, figures...? Undecided. The problem is, Ikea in the UK does not do 3x3, so I'd either have to B&Q it or go for 3x4. I am leaning 3x4, now I've thought about it some more; I'd have to check measurements when less PEM stricken though since there's a radiator and a light switch on either side to keep in mind.

- I've wanted this for a while, but a 1x3 kallax (again ikea does not do this, so the B&Q fake, or I go for 1x4 or a Billy) next to my tv stand. The bottom cube would be drawers for games and also controllers/cables/switch stuff, the top two for figures. Something to keep in mind if I go kallax is that the glass door inserts only come in white, so I'd have to get extra inserts in the correct colours else I drive myself scatty over it forever and no thank you lmao 😭😭 i'm not sure about height on this one. Need to do some more measuring.

- I do have a chunky kallax (4x4) which is all open shelving. I think I would like to put doors or drawers into some of it, and then get acrylic display doors for each side, so light still passes through. Wicked Brick has some. They also have acrylic tiered stands and ones specifically designed for nendoroids with inbuilt peg slots, so I'll absolutely grab some of those for wherever my nendos end up.

- for desk replacement, probably 3 half size Billy's with doors. I already have 3 full size Billy's, and will ideally get doors for them too to help with dusting and cleaning issues. I did consider another kallax, but, hmm. I keep changing my mind about it. I like the idea of more drawers... I'm unsure about the practicality or safety of it, but I could also potentially have a 1x2 kallax on top of my dresser with drawers. Or I could do 2 Billy's one kallax. Much to consider.

So yeah, I am measuring, thinking, seeing where I get in the week or so I've given myself to consider it. Longterm, it'll be incredibly helpful for me.
